The 3 things you SHOULD know about petrol in diesel!

AdBlue In Your Diesel

All over Lancashire we are encountering a lot more instances of AdBlue contamination wherein a motorist has poured AdBlue right into their diesel fuel tank. This is to a certain extent due to people not being totally sure the right way to use it (please note: it is in actual fact not a fuel additive), and to some extent due to the fact that the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are frequently directly next to each other on the vehicle.

Now, what's the situation with putting AdBlue in the diesel vehicle?

Seeing as AdBlue is primarily ionised water, it is almost the same as putting water in to your tank. Diesel and water really don't mix in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water does not work. Furthermore, the urea is seriously corrosive to your fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystalising, blocking injectors and fuel filters. If you have put AdBlue in the fuel tank get it drained at the earliest opportunity. And certainly take care not to start up the engine - not even to move it off of the pump. If perhaps you have started the car you may almost certainly need to have the full fuel system flushed and fuel filters changed out.

In the event that you get in this position do not fret or panic! Contact us, the UK’s Number one fuel contamination company. Our engineers possess the practical knowledge and experience to have you back on the road promptly and efficiently, no mess, no fuss.

Wrong Fuel Doctor Barton - Fuel Rescue Barton

This was exactly the graveyard shift. It was around dawn and hardly anyone was around. It was fairly uneventful up to now, and me and Ray were loafing reading a couple of old articles. This was an unusual quiet moment in Lancashire. Actually it was indeed that calm that the moment the telephone inevitably rang I jumped! The person on the opposite end said: "I just ended my overnight shift and incredibly put petrol in a diesel buff Volkswagen Jetta III in error". We asked him to let us know where exactly the vehicle was and we set off, arriving in Barton not as much as an hour or so later. The incorrect fuel was extracted from the car. He thanked us profusely for getting there so fast. While we were returning home we found two young women at the edge of the road who seemed like they had a flat. Accordingly we pulled over and helped them change it, to their elation.

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
